Dear University Place Neighbor,
As Mayor, my job is to listen to your concerns and make the most balanced, sensible and responsible decisions I can. As I have done so, I have always endeavored to serve you with integrity, fairness, and a sense of purpose.
I have been fighting reckless and irresponsible property developers in University Place for over twenty years. Fourteen years ago when I was elected to the City Council, I made a commitment to you to help develop sensible growth strategies that protect our neighborhoods and encourage quality retail development within our existing commercial zones.
Under my watch, we have created tools to ensure that development compliments the character of our community and supports the quality of life we enjoy. Tools like zoning codes that protect neighborhoods, building design standards, sign regulations, and impact fees that ensure that new growth pays its fair share towards necessary infrastructure improvements.
Unfortunately, the fight is not over! My opponent is financially backed by special interests that want to weaken these tools for their own financial gain.
Together we have accomplished much in the past fourteen years. We have decreased crime, built sidewalks, parks and street lighting, and maintained a balanced budget with a $4 million dollars in reserves, clean financial audits, and an "A+" bond rating.
My track record demonstrates leadership, and a commitment to integrity and good government. I bring a balanced approach and reputation as a leader who will listen to the community, and reject special interest politics.
Don’t let outside special interest groups win! Keep me in the fight for sidewalks, parks and sensible growth strategies for another four years. Please give me your vote for University Place City Council, Position 1, on November 3rd.
Warmest regards,
Mayor Linda Bird
